Tour Down Under comes to the end

Allan Davis wins the first major race of 2009

Tour Down Under ended today, with last stage in Adelaide City Council Circuit. 18 laps of 4.5 kilometers each have been made and the winner Francesco Chicchi from Quickstep ended the race in 1 hour 42 minutes.  But the big winner was Allan Davis also from Quickstep who finished first in the general classification with a time of 19 hours 26 minutes and 59 seconds. Davis won three of the six stages of the race and he also won the sprint classification.

“I’ve finally done it, I can’t believe it. I would like to thank my team, Quick Step, they have been wonderful and have done a great job all week” said Davis who won the Tour Down Under in front of 144.000 fans, the highest number of supporters at a sporting event in Australia.

Allan Davis was followed by Stuart O’Grady from Team Saxo Bank and José Joaquin Rojas Gil the Spanish from Caisse d’Epargne. Lance Armstrong who is preparing for the Tour de France with Astana ended the tour on 29th place at 49 seconds from the winner putting up a great show for the viewers. Armstrong attacked on the second last lap, but the sprinter’s teams chased him and it was a sprint finish.

Team standings was dominated by French teams, won by Française des Jeux, with Spanish team Caisse d’Epargne on second and AG2R La Mondiale on the last step of the podium.

The big surprise happened and I am happy to say that my prediction was wrong. Shane Mosley, at 37 fought a perfect fight to win by a brutal knock out the fight with Antonio Margarito. He was in tremendous shape and, he put his game plan in application in, and used his superior speed and skills from the beginning of the fight. Margarito, although a very tough guy could not deal with those wild left hooks that caught him over and over again. Sugar Shane landed an exceptionally 49% of his power shots, an anybody knows that Mosley can really punch. Overall it was a great night at Staples Center with an announced crowd of 20,820 watching the underdog pulling the upset again in the same place where the first fight against Oscar De La Hoya happened.

The Curious Case of Benjamin Button

Top film with the potential of being one of the best ever.

This is one of the very few masterpieces of today’s movie industry. “The Curious Case of Benjamin Button” is a film that makes you realize that anything in life can be done, no matter how big the obstacles. If Benjamin Button lived a normal life in reverse, then everything is possible. This is the major aspect that I’ve got from the film. The movie lives you with the impression that life goes to it’s end very fast. You see Benjamin Button in various stages of his life and, he becomes older and more experienced and in the same time he descends the steps of  his unusual and strange development.

The film shows another perspective of living. The character is the only one of this kind in the world, but he lives life to the fullest.The “Matryoshka doll” technique, with Daisy (Cate Blanchett) reminding the love that she had with Benjamin, makes the movie more complex than a normal illustration of the story, just like Titanic.

The movie could have been a little longer and get into more details, but it still remains a masterpiece. Overall it is one of 2008’s top movies, but with the potential of being one of all time best.

Margarito – Mosley Predictions

There’s a big fight coming up on 24 january between Antonio Margarito 37-5 with 27 KOs and Shane Mosley 45-5 with 38 KOs. As you can see both fighters have the same number of defeats and they also never been knocked out. Based on their styles and the moment of their career, Margarito should beat Mosley.

Margarito is known for his aggressive, always come forward style and his granite chin, but his skills and defense are very underrated. If you have seen the match that he won against Miguel Cotto, you know that he was always attacking but Cotto didn’t landed many wild,powerful shots. Margarito was in many matches of his career the guy with slower hands but he destroyed his opponents with his attitude. I don’t think that this match will be an exception. Mosley has quicker hands but I don’t think he can manage the pressure that Margarito will put on him. On his last fight Sugar Shane knocked out Ricardo Mayorga in late 12th round, but without that he would have won by split decision against an opponent that is not half of the boxer that Margarito is at this moment. Also in his fight with Cotto, Mosley gone to distance losing after 12 rounds but he didn’s have any solution to dominate Cotto. In the late rounds he started to circle around waiting for the match to finish. Margarito, as you all know punished Cotto winning by technical knock out in the 11th. Margarito is also the better body puncher. You all remember his second fight with Kermit Cintron. Based on their styles and moment of their careers I predict that Margarito will win by KO/TKO in the late rounds, and I don’t think Mosley can knock out Margarito for a major upset. This being told, I can’t wait the fight on 24th january.
